Sai, Savetha triumph

CHENNAI: N.R. Sai Manivannan (National PS) and C.H. Savetha (Velammal MHS) were the winners in boys’ and girls’ under-17 categories respectively in the Chennai district chess championship.

Sai won his final round defeating P. Ganesh (JRM School) to take his tally to 4.5 points. P. Ganesh and J. Arun (Velammal MHS) finished tied on four points, but Ganesh was declared runner-up on better progressive score.

In girls’ section, there was a three-way tie amongst Savetha, G. Amirthavalli (Jai Gopal Garodia Vivekanand Vidyalaya) and B. Jeyassri (Amritha Vidyalayam) with three points each. Savetha emerged winner on better progressive score.

The top three in each category will represent the district in the State championship at Namakkal from May 10 to 15.

Final standings: Boys: 1. N.R. Sai Manivannan (National PS) 4.5/5; 2. P. Ganesh (JRM) 4; 3. J. Arun (Velammal) 4; 4. G. Jaswant (Montfort) 3.5. Girls: 1. C.H. Savetha (Velammal) 3; 2. G. Amirthavalli (JGVV) 3; 3. B. Jeyassri (Amritha Vidyalayam) 3; 4. J.G. Nivedhitha (Ever Win MHSS) 2.5.

SDAT summer camp

The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu will organise a 21-day camp in various disciplines from April 19.
