NEW DELHI: Sri Lankan woman sprinter Jani Chathurangani Silva has been banned for two years following a verdict given by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Lausanne, on April 14. The CAS upheld an appeal by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) which challenged the exoneration of the athlete by Sri Lankan authorities following a complicated disciplinary procedure after the 2006 South Asian Games in Colombo where she tested positive for 19-norandrosterone. Last month she participated in the South Asian championships in Kochi, winning the silver in the 100m apart from being part of the gold-winning sprint relay team. India will gain the gold in the relay after it is officially upgraded. — Special Correspondent
