TIRUCHI: In an intensive drive launched in the Central Zone, the police arrested 2,766 criminals and those against whom non-bailable warrants were pending. The drive was conducted in Thanjavur and Tiruchi Ranges on the instruction of the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone Karan Singha. A total of 13,520 cases were registered under the Motor Vehicle Act which included booking of cases against 2,907 persons for drunken driving. Seventy one persons were detained under the Goondas Act and 53 under the Bootlegger Act. Action was initiated under the Security Act against 2,794 persons. A police press release said that the special teams formed following the murder of one Arivazhagan at Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district recently arrested three persons in connection with the crime.
