Objection: Consumer protection council members in Bhavani allege building rule violations. —
BHAVANI: The Consumer Protection Council has complained of violations of State Government norms in the construction of buildings in this heritage town.
The council says there are 40 to 50 buildings that stand in violation of the rule that says buildings within a radius of 1 km of the Sangameswarar Temple should not be over 9 metres tall. This stipulation is mentioned in Government Order 22, issued on January 30, 1997 by the Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply.
Council president K. Kumaraguruparan says those constructing buildings within the 1 km radius, as measured from the temple compound, have given the go-by to the norm. The Bhavani Municipality has acknowledged that the rule applies to the temple town. It also says no permission for construction of such buildings has been accorded.
