ON THEIR TOES: Troops patrolling a forward post in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir along the Line of Control. Rajouri: The Army has moved troops from the hinterland and deployed them along the Line of Control following the threat of increased infiltration by militants from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. General Officer Commanding (GOC), 16 Corps, Lieutenant General R.K. Karwal said heavy snowfall this winter had damaged the fencing along the border and this also necessitated heavier deployment in Rajouri and Poonch districts. The security establishment felt that the build-up of militants coincided with the increasing political rallies in the State, with the Assembly elections fast approaching. Militant outfits may resort to violence to deter some separatists from contesting elections, according to senior officers. The officers confirmed that 400 militants were waiting to sneak across the LoC.
