‘Scrap order on weapons in Kodagu’
Staff Correspondent
Madikeri: Codava National Council (CNC) secretary-general N.U. Nachappa said here on Tuesday that weapons were inseparable part of Kodava culture and opposed the directions of the Kodagu district administration asking the exemption certificate holders to deposit arms in police stations till the election process was completed.
In a statement, Mr. Nachappa said that in 1994, the then Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan had exempted the holders of exemption certificates in Kodagu from depositing their guns in the police stations. The same precedent should be followed and continued, Mr. Nachappa said.
