NIT-T bags 28 research projects

TIRUCHI: The National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi, has been awarded 28 sponsored research projects amounting to Rs.5.23 crore during 2007-2008.

During 2006-07, there were 17 sponsored research projects amounting to Rs.1.71 crore. The awarded projects involving faculty and students are of considerable scientific, technological and academic significance.

The projects have provided them opportunities to work on problems of immediate relevance to the country, the Institute’s Dean – Academic P. Jayabalan said, presenting the Institute Day 2008 report recently.

The Institute has also taken up 15 consultancy assignments valued at Rs.10.52 lakh and has been awarded with 19 technical services contract valued at Rs.9.22 lakh mainly involving material testing and soil investigations this year, Prof. Jayabalan said.

The Institute has signed Memorandums of Understanding with foreign universities including NIMS, Japan, and Dong Eui University, Korea, Bharathidasan University, multinational companies such as TCS, IBM, and Indian organisations like ELCOT and BHEL for faculty training and exchange; collaborative research; Ph.D and MS project sponsorship; sharing infrastructural facilities for mutual benefit; and joint international conferences and joint publications.

All major public sector undertakings had together recruited over 100 students this year.
