Bharat Petroleum records win

Special Correspondent

MUMBAI: Bharat Petroleum defeated Hyderabad XI 4-2 in the quarterfinal league of the Bombay hockey Gold Cup tournament here on Sunday.

Jarnail Singh struck two goals and Hari Prasad and Amar Aiyamma scored a goal each as the Pool A topper consolidated its position.

Tamil Nadu XI scored a narrow 1-0 victory over Central Railway. For Tamil Nadu captain Adam Sinclair scored the match-winner.

The visitor, denied room to penetrate despite all the running and scheming in the first session, put Central under pressure after the breather.

A speedy move down the centre, involving Sinclair, Vinod Rayer and Philip Martin resulted in Sinclair guiding the ball in.

The results (quarterfinal league): Pool A: Tamil Nadu XI 1 (Adam Sinclair) bt Central Railway 0; Bharat Petroleum 4 (Jarnail Singh 2, Hari Prasad, Amar Aiyamma) bt Hyderabad XI 2 (T. Sudheer, Arvind).
