CHENNAI: Arrows edged out Madras Sporting Union (MSU) 6-5 via the sudden death in the third place play-off match of the Deccan Chronicle Trophy football tournament at Nehru Stadium here on Saturday. The teams were locked 1-1 at regulation time. MSU went ahead through Reagan in the ninth minute before Mervin equalised for Arrows. In the tie-breaker, four strikers of both the teams found the target — Rajmohan, Mervin, Rajan, Murugan for Arrows and Vimal Raj, Ravi Kumar, Abdul Kapoor and Pradeep Kumar for MSU. In the sudden death, Arrows’ Sanjay Gandhi converted while MSU’s Jayaseelan couldn’t. The results: Arrows 6 (Mervin 2, Rajmohan, Rajan, Murugan, Sanjay Gandhi) bt MSU 5 (Reagan, Vimal Raj, Ravi Kumar, Abdul Kapoor & Pradeep Kumar). MCC takes 2-0 leadVinod Sridhar and V. Kamalakannan helped MCC take a 2-0 lead over Besant Nagar in the final of the Sanmar-TNTA ‘A’ Zone tennis tournament at the MCC on Saturday. Sridhar blanked Ajai Selvaraj 6-0, 6-0, while Kamalakannan defeated Rishi Sridhar 6-1, 6-3. The three doubles matches are scheduled for Sunday. YSCA cricketThe 39th all-India YSCA Trophy cricket tournament will be conducted from May 1. The tournament is open to all clubs affiliated to TNCA, business houses, companies and educational institutions and clubs from all over the country. Trials to select the Indian junior boys’ and sub-junior girls’ teams will be held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium on April 15 at 8 a.m. The selected players will have to attend the coaching camp for five days from April 16.
