KOCHI: Ombudsman for Local Self-Government institutions M.R. Hariharan Nair on Friday disposed of an individual complaint against constructions on the Perandoor canal disrupting water flow. This was after the Corporation Secretary submitted a statement in this regard. The secretary in her statement said that the construction works had been stopped and that the obstructions in question were removed. The case related to a complaint filed by Haseeb Rahiman stating that the construction of a temporary bund and erection of coconut piles for a temporary bridge by Mohammed Sadique affected the flow of water through the canal and that walls of his house developed cracks owing to the works. The town planning committee of the Kochi Corporation granted permission for the constructions to Mr. Sadique on August 21, 2007, for accessing his plot. The permission was granted subject to conditions that flow of water and cleanliness of the canal would not be affected and that the existing width of the canal would not be reduced.
