Spiritual experience spills over on canvas

‘Ultimate truth’: A painting by Pratiksha Apurv.

An exhibition of thought-provoking spiritual paintings by Pratiksha Apurv is on at Lalit Kala Akademi here.

Titled “Spiritual Odyssey”, the exhibition was inaugurated by former National Security Adviser Brajesh Mishra on March 30. “How can I describe spirituality in front of Osho’s niece but let me say that her works are challenging and unveil a new dimension of life. Pratiksha is creating a unique canvas and challenging all of us to understand and learn from it,” Mr. Mishra says.

Niece and disciple of spiritual guru Osho, Pratiksha says, “All my paintings have a message. They are not mere art works but my journey into the world of spirituality. Whatever I have understood about the existence of life has been portrayed on canvas.”

“Since the age of 11 I have been doing meditation and listening to Osho’s discourses. He had described the meaning of shlokas in Upanishads. Since many people cannot comprehend the meaning behind the shlokas, I have depicted them on canvas.”

Vibrant colours and introspective frames stem from Pratiksha’s moments of inner joy. Before moving to art, Pratiksha was a successful fashion designer. Having no prior technical knowledge of paintings, the artist says she accidentally became a painter. Her latest exhibition is the third in a series of her “Spiritual Odyssey” collection. The current exhibition is on view up to this coming Monday.
