Abhijeet Gupta shocks Maghami

NEW DELHI: India’s latest Grandmaster Abhijeet Gupta stunned fourth-seeded Iranian Ehsan Ghaem Maghami to stay in the lead with seven others after three rounds of the 10th Dubai Open chess tournament in Dubai on Tuesday.

Two other Indian youngsters, R.R. Laxman and C. Praveen Kumar, did well to hold Chinese GM Lio Chao and Azebaijan’s GM Sarhan Guliev.

In the Gausdal Classic at Gausdal, Norway, Kerala’s lone Grandmaster G.N. Gopal posted a commendable result in the first round by drawing with top seed Greek GM Vassilios Kotronias in 34 moves.
