CHENNAI: S. Badrinath’s 112 at better than a run-a-ball helped Jolly Rovers to 324 for six on day one of its TNCA first division semifinal match against Aruna at the ICL-Guru Nanak College ground. Badrinath added 177 for the third wicket with No. 3 batsman T. Dhanasekhar after Rovers chose to bat. Dhanasekhar, a student of Pachaiyappa’s College, compiled a patient 257-ball 96 (9x4). Aruna wrested control of Tuesday’s play after Badrinath’s run out, restricting Rovers to 82 runs in 38.2 overs before close. Badrinath earlier reached his second century in five matches this season by chipping P. Sakthi over mid-wicket. He celebrated the landmark by pulling the off-spinner’s next delivery for four. Badrinath’s 103-ball knock contained three sixes and 11 fours. Right-arm medium pacer Shyamsundar scalped three wickets for Aruna. In the other semifinal, played at CPT-IP, Grand Slam, asked to bowl by Vijay CC, restricted the defending champion to 239 for six. Seamer P. Amarnath returned figures of three for 35. Left-handers R. Prasanna (62, 129b, 7x4) and S. Sharath (42) put on 68 to steady Vijay’s innings after it had lost three wickets for 72. The scores: Jolly Rovers 324 for six in 90 overs (M. Vijay 41, T. Dhanasekhar 96, S. Badrinath 112, N. Ajay Kudua 49 batting) vs. Aruna, at ICL-Guru Nanak. Vijay 239 for six in 90 overs (R. Prasanna 62, S. Sharath 42) vs. Grand Slam, at CPT-IP. Kamalesh bats wellM. Kamalesh scored 85 to guide Santhome ‘A’ to a four-wicket win over St. Bede’s ‘A’ in the final of the TNCA Boost City schools tournament for the C. Ramaswamy Trophy (under-17) on Monday. Kamalesh was adjudged the Man of the Match, while M. Ashwin, who took four wickets for Santhome ‘A’ in the final, was declared the Man of the Tournament. The score: St. Bede’s ‘A’ 202 for seven in 50 overs (R. Rohit 56, B. Indrajith 43, M. Ashwin four for 37) lost to Santhome ‘A’ 204 for six in 48.1 overs (M. Kamalesh 85, S. Dinesh 42, S.S. Pon Xavier 33).
