Anup Sridhar for Asian championship

BANGALORE: Anup Sridhar, who missed the Indian Open in Hyderabad last week, will play in the Asian badminton championship at Johar Bharu, Malaysia, from April 15. Sridhar has resumed training after treatment for an ankle injury.

He said, “Though there is a bit of pain, I can play the event. My overall fitness is fine and I look forward to a good show.”

Tom John, Sridhar’s travelling coach, said, “we have decided to go ahead with our plans to play in the ABC and the injury is something he has to cope with.

“We will exactly know how he takes it in his stride in a match situation. He is fit enough and we are hoping for the best,” John added.

Arvind Bhat, a trainee of the Tata Padukone Badminton Academy, however, will not play in the tournament as he is recovering from a recent surgery. — Special Correspondent
