New purchase policy, flyover get the nod

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday streamlined the procurement policy for computer hardware, software and accessories and gave its nod for signing of a memorandum of understanding on academic collaboration between the Foundation for Aesthetics and Research (FAR) and the State Department of Training and Technical Education to train students of the Beauty Culture Department of Meerabai Polytechnic.

At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the Cabinet approved construction of a grade separator at the Ghazipur crossing in East Delhi for which the Expenditure Finance Committee on Monday had sanctioned Rs.249 crore. The Cabinet has also recommended prorogation of the 13th Session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly that began on March 17 and was adjourned sine die on April 4.

Following the meeting, Ms. Dikshit informed that the diploma course in beauty culture would be made comprehensive to make it more employment-oriented. The MoU has been approved as Meerabai Polytechnic, which is a government institution under the Department of TTE, has been running a diploma course in beauty culture since 1975.

The MoU seeks to contribute in upgrading education and training in the field of cosmetics and fragrances by introducing inter alia recognised professional and vocational education programmes and courses for improving technical study, training material and conditions, teaching and training in the field.

Ms. Dikshit said the Cabinet had revised the computer hardware procurement policy to allow procurement from the open market. The Cabinet gave its approval for construction of a three-level grade separator at the Ghazipur crossing on National Highway-24 and Road No.56. To be commissioned before the Commonwealth Games 2010, the project would make the intersection signal-free. The grade separator would consist of a 770-metre-long eight-lane flyover along NH-24. It would have a rotary at the middle level and an underpass on Road No.56. There will be two foot-over bridges with escalators on Road No.56 and two pedestrian bridges.
