KOCHI: George Aditya Paul of St. Patrick’s School (Angamaly) and C.H. Meghna of Kendriya Vidyalaya (Kadavanthra) won the boys and girls titles in the Kerala State under-9 chess championship which concluded at the Aluva YMCA on Tuesday evening. George Aditya tied for the top spot with S. Anand (Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya) but the former had a superior progressive score. Meghna, one of the best players in the country in her age-group, won the girls crown with an all-win record from six rounds. The top two finishers in both sections have qualified for the under-9 National championship which will be held in New Delhi later this month. Final placings (points from six rounds): Boys: 1. George Aditya Paul (St. Patrick’s School, Angamaly, 5.5 pts), 2. S. Anand (Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Kochi, 5.5), 3. E.M. Akhilan (Tvm, 5). Girls: 1. C.H. Meghna (Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kadavanthra, Kochi, 6 pts), 2. Hilmy Parveen (Nirmala School, Aluva, 5), 3. 3. Anjali Manoj (Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Kochi, 5). — Principal Correspondent
