NEW DELHI: Anjali Bhagwat won the bronze medal in women’s air rifle in the second Asian air gun shooting championship at Nanjing, China. Two-time Olympian Anjali shot a 396 in the qualifying phase and 102.9 in the final. Yi Zang of China won the gold with a total of 499.2, 0.4 points ahead of Anjali. The silver went to Xiang Wei of Singapore, who was 0.1 point behind the gold despite a 398 in the preliminary phase. The Indian team captured the gold with 1187 out of 1200 as Priya Agarwal (396) and Suma Shirur (395) came up with a good fare to support Anjali. Priya shot a 101.5 in the final and took the fifth place, while Suma slipped to the eighth place following a 99.3 in the final. Tejaswini Sawant (397) and Avneet Kaur Sidhu (394) shot in the MQS section and thus were not eligible to fight for the medals. Singapore took the silver with 1184 and China the bronze at 1183. Narang fourthIn men’s air rifle, Gagan Narang finished fourth with 696.2 following a 103.2 in the final. Abhinav Bindra finished seventh with a 694.2 following a below 592 in the qualifying phase. P.T. Raghunath was 13th with a 587. Sanjeev Rajput, shooting in MQS, had a 585. The Indian men’s team took the silver at 1772 behind China (1786). Korea was third with 1768. In the junior women’s section, Ayonika Paul took the sixth place with a 393.
