Swedish team arrives for talks on tie-ups

Thiruvananthapuram: A team of scientists representing a consortium of universities and institutes in Sweden began discussions with the state government here on Monday on a collaborative programme, including joint venture projects between Kerala and Sweden.

The delegation led by Prof. Ramon Alexander Wyss of the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, held discussions with Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and senior officials of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).

E.P.Yesodharan, Executive Vice-President of KSCSTE, who participated in the talks said the teams would seek to identify areas of cooperation between R&D institutions in Kerala and Sweden.

Some of the proposed areas of collaboration include environment science and technology, energy research, biotechnology and climate change.

Promoting cooperation

“The visit is part of an inter-governmental effort to develop a network aimed at promoting cooperation in science and technology between India and Sweden.

The collaboration will involve research projects, human resource development and training for scientific personnel. Exchange visits will also be part of the programme”, Mr.Yesodharan added.

The other members of the delegation included Dr.Goran Baurue of the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, Prof. Lars-Christer Lundin of the Uppasala University, Prof.Lars Oberg representing Umea university and Prof. Bjorn Karlsson and Prof. Baboo M.Nair of the Lund University. Principal Scientific officer Prakash Kumar also represented KSCSTE in the talks.

The talks will continue on Tuesday.
