HYDERABAD: Sai Teja Tulluru, a junior college student from Hyderabad, earned a distinction to the city by grabbing second place in the first ever Indian National Brain Bee Championship 2008. Coming from Sri Chaitanya Junior College in Narayanaguda, the boy was ahead of all the other participants in Round-1 (verbal quiz), and in the overall scores after Round-2 (Patient-Doctor Simulation), and Round-3 (neuro anatomy). Krithi C.Sundaram, a 11th grader from Bangalore stood first in the championship and will represent the nation at the International Brain Bee Championship to be held in May at Montreal. Kaushik Senthilnathan from Mumbai claimed third place. Twelve finalists from six cities across the country participated in the national finals of the championship held at Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences on March 29 and 30. Sai Teja, a top grader in the college, also won second place in a citywide science fair previously for his demonstration of the conversion of frictional force from automobile brakes into electrical energy. The International Brain Bee is a three level (regional, national and international) quiz competition founded by Dr. Norbert Myslinski, Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. The aim of the contest is to motivate young men and women to learn about the brain and to inspire them to consider careers in the neurosciences, a press note from Indian National Brain Bee said on Sunday.
