Calling attention: Congress legislators -- E. Pratap Reddy, Veda Vyas and Vishwaroop submitting a privilege notice to Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy in Hyderabad on Sunday. - HYDERABAD: Legislative Assembly Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy has said that the ‘undemocratic remarks’ made by the TDP MLA from Addanki, Karanam Balaramkrishna Murthy warranted “a very serious action”. Responding to a privilege notice submitted by the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Sunday in the Assembly, Mr. Suresh Reddy said it was an extraordinary situation where the members of the House had complained against a colleague. Usually, the Privileges Committee looks into complaints of protocol violation against the officials but in this case, it has to look into charges against a responsible member. The CLP delegation comprising E. Pratap Reddy, P. Viswarup, B. Veda Vyas and others told the Speaker that the TDP member made disparaging remarks against the latter during a campaign launched by that party at Ongole. The campaign was to inform people that the leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu had not made any derogatory remarks against Deputy Speaker G. Kuthuhalamma. Mr. Suresh Reddy said in democracy, every body has to respect the Chair. “By casting aspersion, the member has brought disrespect to the Speaker’s office,” he said. The Speaker said he had referred the matter to the Privileges Committee and assured them that he would also go through the CDs and other newspaper clippings to initiate necessary action. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Pratap Reddy said that the TDP member’s remarks at a dharna amounted to contempt of the House. He said the Speaker ruling was final and no remarks could be made inside or outside the House, hence there was prima facie case against him. He said the CLP delegation had urged the Speaker to refer the matter to the Privileges Committee suo moto for taking necessary action against him.
