New Delhi
NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken announced over the weekend that his Ministry had notified the regulations for regularisation of unauthorised colonies in the Capital pursuant to the guidelines issued earlier in October 2007. The outer limit for the entire regularisation process, he said, had been set at six months from the last date of receipt of applications from colonies for regularisation, the process for which had already been initiated by the Delhi Government. The Union Government has also filed an affidavit in the High Court informing the Court of these developments, Mr. Maken said. The regulations, which have been communicated to the Delhi Government, stipulate wide-ranging powers to the State Government to take up the entire regularisation process and related development work with immediate effect. Exercise simplifiedThe entire exercise of regularisation had been simplified by excluding impractical restrictive clauses vis-a-vis requirements such as requisite social infrastructure and past registration. This had been done taking into consideration ground realities and would ensure that lakhs of citizens living in such colonies do not face unnecessary hardship, the Minister stated. Mr. Maken also expressed the hope that with the Delhi Government being designated the final authority through these regulations in deciding vital aspects related to regularisation like fixation of boundaries, development charges, processing fee and which colony to regularise, the people would not have to face unnecessary harassment in running from pillar to post and development works would be taken up as soon as possible.
