Cooperative bank employees observe fast

CHENNAI: Cooperative bank employees, affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Coop Bank Employees’ Federation, on Friday observed a token fast in Chennai and district headquarters in support of their various demands.

Federation general secretary P. Balakrishnan told reporters here that their demands included payment of pension and more refinance from NABARD for agriculture operations at 2.5 per cent. Thanking the State government for entering into a MoU with NABARD for implementing Prof. A. Vaidyanathan’s recommendations for revamping short-term agriculture cooperative banks, Mr. Balakrishnan said the terms of the pact should be implemented at the earliest. He also demanded speedy computerisation of operations in cooperative banks.
