PDS rice seized from lorry

KANCHEEPURAM: Rice, weighing around 18.5 tonnes, meant for distribution through public distribution system was seized from a lorry in the Cheyyur police station limit on Tuesday.

According to the police, Inspector Kaliyamurthy found a lorry, bearing an Andhra Pradesh registration number, parked in front of the Vilangur Cooperative Society at 7. 30 p.m. on Tuesday.

A checking led to the seizure of 366 bags of PDS rice.

Subsequently, the vehicle and the consignment were handed over to the tahsildar of Madurantakam.
