Ernakulam boys drub Palakkad, begin in style

KOCHI: Defending boys’ champion and host Ernakulam opened its campaign with a 33-6 victory over Palakkad in the Kerala State sub-junior basketball championship which began at the Sacred Heart School court, Thevara, on Wednesday evening.

In the girls’ section, Thiruvananthapuram defeated Alappuzha 17-9.

The results (league): Boys: Ernakulam 33 (Babu 10) bt Palakkad 6; Kollam 31 (Sanu Thomas 11) bt Wynad 27.

Girls: Thiruvananthapuram 17 (Shilpi 10) bt Alappuzha 9.

CSI MC in last four

CSI Medical College (Karakonam) entered the semifinals of the Mar Baselious Trophy all-Kerala inter-professional college basketball tournament.

In the quarterfinals at the Mar Baselious floodlit court (Thiruvananthapuram) on Wednesday, CSI Medical College defeated St. Gits (Kottayam) 46-22.

Thomson top-scored for the winner with 33 points.

Marian Engineering College (Kazhakootam) and Pushpagiri Medical College (Thiruvalla) entered the quarterfinals.

The results: Quarterfinals: CSI Medical College (Karakonam) 46 (Thomson 33) bt St. Gits (Kottayam) 22.

Pre-quarterfinals: Marian Engineering College (Kazhakootam) 35 (Jasif 11) bt PA Aziz College of Engineering and Technology (Karakulam) 11; Pushpagiri Medical College (Thiruvalla) 40 (Jacob 18, Jeneiv Thomas 17) bt Mohandas College of Engineering (Anad) 11.

Abhishek’s century in vain

Abhishek Mohan’s century (108) went in vain as Pankajakasturi CC squeezed out a three-run win over Crazy CC in the Canara Bank-TDCA ‘B’ division cricket league at the Medical College ground (Thiruvananthapuram) on Wednesday.

Chasing 201 for a win, Crazy appeared to be coasting for an easy win but Abhishek’s dismissal triggered a collapse. For Pankajakasturi, Unnikrishnan took five for 21.

The scores: Pankajakasturi CC 200 in 45 overs (Ajay Prasad 63, Unnikrishnan 47) bt Crazy CC 197 in 43.4 overs (Abhishek Mohan 108, Unnikrishnan five for 21).

Easy for Young Indians

Young Indians thrashed Falcons 3-0 in the Videocon Kozhikode district ‘A’ division football league in Kozhikode on Wednesday. Abdulla Samad, Riyaz and Sharafali netted the goals.

Others results: KTC 2 (Abdul Rauf, Fakruddin) drew with Universal SC 2 (Ismail, Pramith); Farook College 1 (Basith) drew with Young Challengers 1 (Ramesh).

Football camp

The newly formed football club FC Kannur will conduct a coaching camp to identify young talents. Those interested should report at the 122 Infantry Battalion ground on April 4 at 4 p.m.
