AITUC for strike on prices issue
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Concerned over unabated rise in prices of commodities, the All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has written to other trade unions seeking a suitable date to organise a nationwide strike on the issue.
AITUC general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta has said that he has written to major unions, barring the Congress-backed Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) backed Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS). Mr. Dasgupta said that recent budget had no proposals to control the soaring prices which had broken the back of the common people. This had disappointed vast sections of the working masses, he said in his letter.
The Public Distribution System meant to provide relief to the poor was a shambles. There was no indication available when the government intended to fulfil its commitment to enact a comprehensive law for the workers of the unorganised and agriculture sectors, the letter said.
