Mohanty issue: Orissa to approach rights commission
Special Correspondent
BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government on Tuesday decided to approach the State Human Rights Commission to probe the allegations of sexual harassment against former Speaker Maheswar Mohanty.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed that the Commission be requested to probe the allegations, as a House Committee of the State Assembly could not be formed to conduct the probe.
‘Non-cooperation’
The State Assembly had not been able to set up a House Committee due to non-cooperation of the Opposition, the government said.
Mr. Mohanty had resigned as Speaker on Monday in the wake of the Opposition demand for his resignation and an independent inquiry into the episode.
