Court building work to be over by September

PERAMBALUR: Work on construction of a combined court building here at an outlay of Rs.8.75 crore is to be completed ahead of schedule.

The building, the foundation for which was laid last year, is expected to be completed by September against the original schedule of November 2008, said official sources.

The two-storey building, together with living quarters for judicial officers and a block for the Bar Association, covers a total plinth area of 7,812 square metres on a total area of nine acres.

It will accommodate seven courts — five courts in the ground floor and two in the first floor. While the District and Sessions Judge court, Chief Judicial Magistrate court, Mahila court, Judicial Magistrate court and Sub-court will be housed in the ground floor, two Additional District Munsif courts will be accommodated in the first floor.

Madras High Court Judge V. Dhanapalan, who is also Portfolio Judge of the district, inspected the ongoing works on Sunday. He was accompanied by Principal District and Sessions Judge S. Kalavathi, Chief Judicial Magistrate S. Ramathilagam and Chairman of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry R.K. Chandramohen.

He advised the Public Works Department officials to set up ramps to help differently abled persons.
