Haryana covers 12 districts under polio campaign

Chandigarh: About 67 per cent children till the 5 years have been covered on the first day of the Sub-National Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation round of 2008-09 on Sunday in 12 districts of Haryana.

These are Ambala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sonepat and Yamunanagar.

About 26 lakh children are to be covered during this campaign in these districts.

The campaign will continue for another two days, including house-to-house visits, in the districts to administer the vaccine to those children who were not brought to the booths set up to administer polio vaccine.

9,900 booths set-up

In all, 9,900 booths were set-up in the State, which were manned by about 39,600 health officials, volunteers, Anganwari Workers, Accredited Social Health Activists.

Nodal officers

About 2,000 officials supervised the campaign. They were in addition to nodal officers from the State headquarters and independent monitors of PGIMS Rohtak.

The immunisation round was launched by state Health Minister Kartar Devi at village Myna in district Rohtak by administering the polio drops to eligible children. –PTI
