Kolkata is champion

MANGALORE: Kolkata Port Trust won the team championship in the 31st all-India Major Ports table tennis tournament, which concluded here on Saturday. It beat Mumbai Port Trust 3-1 in the final. Vishakapatnam finished third.

A. Maheshwari Tamilvanan, President and Geetha Bhaskar, Vice-President, NMP Mahila Samaj gave away the prizes.

The results:

Team championship: Kolkata beat Mumbai 3-1 (Amith Mukherjee bt Pankaj Kadoo 11-9, 11-6, 12-14, 11-7; S. De Sarkar bt Sunil Kelkar 11-7, 11-3, 11-9; A.L. Chaudhary lost to Sanjay Patankar 11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 7-11; Amith Mukherjee bt Sunil Kelkar 11-2, 11-5, 11-9).

Men: Singles: 1. Amith Mukherjee, 2. Amitlal Chaudhary, 3. Pankaj Kadoo. Doubles: 1. Kolkata, 2. Mumbai, 3. Vishakapatnam
