Police remand for 2 cops in kidney case
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A court here on Saturday sent two Delhi Police constables, wanted in a bribery case in which a kidney racket accused was let off after a Rs.19.85-lakh pay-off to the police, to police remand till Monday.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A. K. Kuhar remanded constables Rakesh Kumar and Naresh Kumar to the custody of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police.
On Friday, the two accused were put through a test identification parade at Tihar Jail. The police had produced the two accused, who had surrendered on March 24, before the court following expiry of their judicial remand.
The accused were part of the team, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ravinder Singh of the Special Staff of the Central Delhi Police, which had allegedly let off kidney racket accused Upendra.
They had picked him up following a tip-off about his Gurgaon clinic from where the racket was allegedly being run. However, they let him off after accepting nearly Rs.20 lakh.
Later, Dr. Upendra was arrested by the Moradabad police.
ASI Singh was arrested by the EOW on February 16 following registration of a case against him and his six-member team. While two of them have surrendered, the others are yet to be arrested.
