Accidental firing near PMO

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: An accidental firing of the service revolver of a constable left a head constable injured in the leg and created quite a flutter near the high-security Prime Minister’s Office at South Block here on Friday. The victim is stated to be out of danger.

According to police, the incident took place around noon inside the duty-change room at South Block when constable Suraj Pal was explaining to head constable Sanjay how to keep the first chamber of a firearm empty for reasons of safety. During the course of the demonstration, Suraj Pal accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting Sanjay in the left thigh.

Hearing the gun shot, security personnel rushed to the spot and found Sanjay bleeding from the thigh. While Suraj Pal was detained, Sanjay was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he was operated upon. He was in a stable condition.
