Creating awareness on water conservation

Special Correspondent

Programme will be held at Brindavan Gardens on weekend

MYSORE: The World Water Day will be observed at the Brindavan Gardens and the Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir during the weekend to create greater public awareness on water conservation.

The venue of the programme, being organised by the Cauvery Neeravari Nigama Ltd. in association with Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement and Water Aid, New Delhi, has been selected to reach out to a large number of people who visit the popular tourist spot. “Recent years have repeatedly demonstrated that water is not inexhaustible and its renewal requires concentrated efforts by the community to safeguard the limited resource,” according to the nigama which has organised various programmes for the two days.

This includes exhibition on the themes of water, sanitation and environment. To draw the attention of children and infuse conservation values, the nigama plans to have games that are designed to convey the message.

Cleaning programme

Volunteers and the staff of the nigama will go around the Brindavan Gardens and participate in cleaning programme.

Placards carrying messages on water conservation, hygiene, pollution and plastics will be displayed. As the Dancing Fountain is the main attraction at the garden, it is proposed to have a audio-visual show not exceeding three to five minutes.

In addition, drawing, painting, skits, street plays and slogan writing events will be held for children and youth at Curzon Park.

The All India Radio will broadcast a special programme on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. and repeat it on Sunday at the same time.

Big 92.7 FM will also air a programme on the issue.
