Anand’s transfer raises eyebrows
Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA: The transfer of Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand three days after the transfers of 23 other IPS officers caught everyone here unawares.
His post was swapped with that of the Director of the Prohibition and Excise department K. V. Rajendranath Reddy who worked here earlier as SP, Government Railway Police.
In his 16-month-long stint, Mr. Anand headed a police team that cracked sensational cases like the murders of TV newsreader B. Lakshmi Sujatha and the wife of a Marwadi trader Kavitha Jain in record time. However, the murder of Pharmacy student Ayesha Meera remained a challenge to the city police even after lapse of three months. The stampede atop Indrakeeladri during Bhavani Deeksha Viramana that claimed seven lives on January 7 gave room for criticism against the police.
Different versions are being heard in police circles. While some officials say that Mr. Anand himself requested a transfer to take care of his ailing mother in Hyderabad, others maintain that it was a decision taken by higher-ups. Mr. Anand, however, could not be reached for his comment.
