Rs. 257.41 crore to upgrade venues of C’Wealth Games

5 projects in Delhi University

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday approved an expenditure of Rs. 257.41 crore for development and upgrading or renovation of competition and training venues for the 2010 Commonwealth Games at Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islamia University and the Ramakrishna Puram branch of Delhi Public School.

There will be five projects in Delhi University: a stadium for Rugby sevens competition events, a multipurpose training hall for netball and boxing, an indoor hall as training venue for women’s wrestling, an outdoor track and field for training for athletics and seven Rugby training fields.

In Jamia Milia Islamia University, there will be an indoor training hall for table tennis and a training field for Rugby sevens. In the DPS, R.K. Puram, two lawn bowls training fields (Rs. 1.74 crore) will be built.

A government spokesperson said all projects would be completed by December 2009.

The cost would include provision of basic infrastructure at the venues.
