Government official shot dead in Nagaland

Kohima: A senior official of the Nagaland government-run cement plant was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near Chizami in Phek district, the police said on Wednesday.

Roland Sangtam, an assistant engineer of the geology and mining department, was on his way to join as deputy manager of the Wazeho Cement Plant, when he was waylaid by a group of six or seven armed men on Tuesday.

Five bullets were pumped into his chest by the assailants in the presence of the driver of the vehicle and another occupant. He died on the spot. — PTI
