The former BCCI president, Jagmohan Dalmiya, coming out of a court in Mumbai on Wednesday.

MUMBAI: The former chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Jagmohan Dalmiya, was arrested here on Wednesday for allegedly misappropriating Rs. 2.90 crore of BCCI money. However, he was immediately released on bail on his executing a bond for Rs. 25,000.

His lawyer Satish Maneshinde said the bail was in accordance with a Mumbai High Court order that granted Mr. Dalmiya anticipatory bail two years ago.

Mr. Dalmiya’s secretary K.M. Chaudhary was also arrested and released on bail. The third accused Gautam Dutta was earlier arrested and given bail.

The Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai police will file a charge sheet in a metropolitan magistrate’s court here against the trio.

After Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar took over as BCCI president, board secretary Niranjan Shah filed a FIR in March 2006, complaining that Mr. Dalmiya had ‘swindled’ money during the 1996 World Cup.
