Health hazard: Sewage stagnating on City Limit Road, Adambakkam. . TAMBARAM: Residents of a well develop pocket in suburban Adambakkam have been suffering due to the flow of sewage outside their houses. Most of Adambakkam comes under Alandur Municipality but for a few areas such as Secretariat Colony and City Limit Road, which fall under Zones 9 and 10 of Chennai Corporation. Alandur Municipality is constructing a massive stormwater drain along City Link Road that connects Adambakkam with Guindy and Velachery. As part of the work, the flow of sewage was blocked on the earlier drain. This resulted in stagnation of sewage on City Link Road. Following complaints, Alandur Municipal officials dug a portion of the road, sunk a pipeline and diverted the stagnated sewage into Secretariat Colony and City Limit Road that branches off from City Link Road. For over a week, sewage has been stagnating in Secretariat Colony and City Limit Road and when it rained heavily last weekend, the level rose and entered a few houses. Senior citizens living on City Limit Road told The Hindu that it was unbearable. They said one portion of their area came under Zone 9 and the other under Zone 10 of Chennai Corporation and elected representatives from here could scarcely be seen during time of crisis. A Corporation engineer assured he would take action, while making it clear that Alandur Municipality did not inform them about the diversion of sewage into their jurisdiction. Alandur Municipal officials said the stormwater drain work was important and they had no option but to divert the sewage.
