55 panchayats in rural job scheme

Staff Reporter

RAMANATHAPURAM: As many as 55 panchayats have been selected for implementing the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the district, said Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar.

Speaking at the training programme for union presidents and officials over the implementation of the scheme held at the Collectorate on Wednesday, he said the panchayats selected under the pilot phase should complete the preliminary works such as identification of beneficiaries, distribution of identity cards, registration and others before March.

Mr. Kumar said 40000 work cards would be distributed on April 1, the date of commencement of the scheme.

It would be extended to other panchayats in a phased manner.

Efforts would be made to ensure proper implementation of the scheme.
