Letters to the Editor
As pointed out in the editorial “Pakistan’s new Prime Minister” (March 25), had Benazir Bhutto lived, it would have been much simpler to choose a leader. Her sudden passing away in a bomb blast — when leaders of her calibre were needed most in Pakistan — has drastically changed the political scenario there. The fact that the Pakistani people have voted for the secular parties, without giving an absolute majority to any party, shows they are for a coalition government. It is for the PPP and the PML(N), the main coalition partners, to bury the past and safeguard democracy. V.M. Khaleelur Rahman, Ambur N.G.R. Prasad, Chennai
