Naxal bandh partial in Agency area

Special Correspondent

APSRTC buses to interior areas suspended

VISAKHAPATNAM: Call for a bandh in Visakha agency on Monday given by the banned CPI (Maoist) to protest the killing of its members in police encounters in the recent past, was partial in some places and failed to evoke a response in some other areas.

There were no untoward incidents in the Visakha agency but since Sunday combing by the police in search of naxalites has been intensified, according to reports received here.

However, APSRTC buses were not operated in full scale and services to interior areas have been suspended. Students appearing for the SSC examinations had not faced difficulty as the Maoists exempted the services meant for the examinations from the bandh.

Students from other villages appearing for the examination at the Chintapalli centres reached the mandal headquarters on Sunday itself. Students also made use of the private vehicles.

Response to the bandh was partial at Paderu, Hukumpeta and Dumbriguda mandals where the shops were closed, did not have much response in Chintapalli and there was little affect in the tourism centre of Araku Valley.
