AHMEDABAD: The Vadodara crime branch police on Sunday arrested the Bharatiya Janata Party member of the Gujarat Assembly from Waghodia, Madhu Srivastava, under the Arms Act for “unprovoked” firing into in the air. He was later released on bail. The Best Bakery case fame, Mr. Srivastava, had fired six rounds from his licensed revolver on Saturday while celebrating Holi. Riding on a horseback to lead a “Holi parade” from his Pratapnagar residence to the Baroda dairy, of which he was the chairman, Mr. Srivastava suddenly fired six rounds into the air to “celebrate” Holi. The act was condemned by even the ruling party leaders and the Vadodara BJP member of the Lok Sabha, Jayaben Thakkar, demanded police action against Mr. Srivastava. The Waghodia MLA was alleged to have offered bribe to the Best Bakery case witness, Zahira Sheikh, to turn hostile after she named some of the accused before the Vadodara fast track court. Ms. Sheikh’s change of stand helped the accused to go scot-free in the fast track court trial which later was shifted to Mumbai session court.
