NEW DELHI: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama arrived in the Capital on Friday evening from Dharamsala by an Air Deccan flight to participate in a weeklong meditation workshop beginning on Saturday. He was whisked away to Ashok Hotel through the VIP lounge gate of the domestic airport amid heavy security. Much to the relief of the security personnel, only a handful of his followers were present at the airport to receive him. However, a grand welcome awaited the Dalai Lama at the hotel. Earthen lamps, rose petals and a huge portrait of the spiritual leader were placed in the lobby that was crammed with his followers and supporters besides curious onlookers. Wearing T-shirts with the message “Pray for Tibet,” his followers said they would have an audience with him on March 29. Keeping his distance from the media, the Dalai Lama said “No” when asked if he had any message for the protesters. The workshop is organised by the Foundation for Universal Responsibility. The organisers said the event was planned three months ago and hence could not be seen in correlation with the ongoing protests by Tibetans.
