Congress president Sonia Gandhi conveys her wishes to Chief Minister
|
CHENNAI: All six candidates, whose nominations to contest the Rajya Sabha elections were accepted, were declared elected on Wednesday, the last day for withdrawal of nominations.
There are six vacancies to the Rajya Sabha from the State. The two Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidates, A.A. Jinnah and Vasanthi Stanley, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate T.K. Rengarajan and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate N. Balaganga collected their election certificates from Returning Officer and Legislative Assembly Secretary M. Selvaraj.
The two Congress candidates, G.K. Vasan and Jayanthi Natarajan, have not collected their certificates.
A press release stated that Congress president Sonia Gandhi telephonically conveyed to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi her happiness and wishes over the victory of the five Democratic Progressive Alliance candidates.
