Amendment to motor vehicles rules

CHENNAI: The Transport Department on Tuesday announced an amendment to Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Rules 1989 by adding a proviso.

According to the new announcement, the seating room of an autorickshaw with five children below 14 years shall be reckoned as three passengers.

The announcement comes in the wake of representations from auto workers unions that autorickshaws be allowed to carry 8 children aged below 14, and they be reckoned as four persons. — Special Correspondent
