CHENNAI: Canon Pro-centre, Canon’s official digital photography training centre in the city, was inaugurated at Alwarpet on Monday.

Inaugurating the centre, Canon India’s senior vice-president Alok Bharadwaj said this was the third authorised training centre in the country. Such centres had been inaugurated in New Delhi and Mumbai during the last two years.

The Canon-certified training will be offered at Ambitions Photography Academy in Alwarpet.

“We have identified Ambitions as one of the centres that could offer short-term and long-term courses. As the business of digital cameras is growing in the country, we want to make photography a high-involvement activity through such courses,” Mr. Bharadwaj said.

Digital camera penetration should be perceived as per the number of people owning digital cameras and not according to the number of households, he added.

Photography was not just an interesting hobby, but also a great profession and source of income.

The initiative was aimed at educating and training those who intended pursuing photography as something more than a hobby, Mr. Bharadwaj said.

With more youngsters showing interest in the field, good training became all the more important. Canon was therefore being very careful in choosing institutes to partner, he added.

Founder-director of Ambitions Photography Academy K.L. Raja Ponsing said this was a sort of accreditation for the institute, which has, in the last 8 years trained over 1,000 students.
