Control of constituent colleges transferred

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Universities Laws (Amendment) Act, 2007, on the system of constituent colleges, has received Presidential assent.

Under the Act, those constituent colleges and institutions attached to different universities, including Madras University, Madurai-Kamaraj University, Bharthiar University, Bharathidasan University and Alagappa University, ceased to be so. The control and management of the colleges stood transferred to the government, according to the State Higher Education Department’s Policy Note (2007-2008).
