Sridhar strikes for Blood Reds FC

Coimbatore: Blood Reds Football Club scored a 1-0 win over Sara Elgi Sports Club in the CDFA ‘A’ division league at the PSG College of Technology grounds here on Monday.

Blood Reds opened the account in the 63rd minute through striker Sridhar, who capitalised on a pass from right-extreme Bhuvanesh to find the net from 20-yards.

Big win for Nehru

Nehru College of Arts and Science posted a nine-wicket win over Sankara CAS in the inter-collegiate cricket tournament for the SNR Ever Rolling Trophy at the SNR Sons grounds on Monday.

The scores:

Sankara CAS 76 in 17.3 overs lost to Nehru CAS 79 for one.

Jayendra Saraswathi CAS bt CMS CAS (spin of the coin), Dr. NGP CAS w/o. VLB CAS.

AEP CC wins

Arumugam Eleven Patriots (AEP) Cricket Club notched up a three-wicket win over Friends Recreation Club in a round robin league match of the Sri Ramakrishna Mills Trophy prize money cricket tournament at the TNAU grounds on Sunday.

The scores:

Round robin: Friends RC 201 for seven in 30 overs (P. Sivakumar 43) lost to Arumugam Eleven Patriots CC 205 for seven in 29.2 overs (S. Mayurnath 67, R. Shanmugasundaram 57).

Easy for CFCC

Gunasekar picked four for 20 in Coimbatore Friends Cricket Club’s four-wicket win over R.S. Puram Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA third division league for the Servall Trophy at the PSGIMS grounds on Sunday.

The scores:

R.S. Puram CC 124 in 37.5 overs (Gunasekar four for 30) lost to Coimbatore Friends CC 128 for six in 41.5 overs.

ICRC, NMCC post wins

At Namakkal, ICRC (Sankari West) and Nithya Memorial CC (NMCC) scored comfortable wins in the Canara Bank-DCAN ‘A’ division league at the ICL Colony and SPB Colony grounds on Sunday.

The scores:

Gurusai CC (Gurusamipalayam) 94 in 27.2 overs (A. Rajesh four for 16) lost to ICRC (Sankari West) 98 for four in 17.2 overs, Nithya Memorial CC (Muthugapatti) 176 in 34.1 overs (Aravind 48) bt Venkataraman CC (Pallipalayam) 118 for three in 26.2 overs (K. Siranjeevee 42 not out). (Rain stops play, Nithya wins on better run-rate).

Alaguraja wins

At Sivakasi, M.K. Alaguraja of Madurai, the former deaf and dumb National champion, won the title in the Virudhunagar district Open chess tournament organised by Rathinam Chess Academy on Sunday.

Final placings:

1. M.K. Alaguraja 5.5/6; 2. A. Nagarjuna (Jaycees MS, Svk) 5; 3. A. Ravi Sankar (Mdu) 5; 4. M. Paramasivam (Arupukottai) 4.5.
