Judo silver for municipal school

PUDUKOTTAI: Sportspersons, who brought laurels to Municipal High School, Rajagopalapuram, Pudukottai town, were honoured at a function held at the school premises recently. G. Sathya, a student of Municipal High School, Rajagopalapuram, Pudukottai town, won the silver medal in the 25 kgs category at the State Judo Championship held at Vellore recently. K. Sheelarani, another student, won a bronze in the 45 kgs category in the same championship.

The school team won the girls hockey title in the sub-junior category at the district inter-school hockey tournament conducted by the Pudukottai district unit of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu.

In the boys hockey tournament, the school boys team finished runner up in the sub-junior category. Parent-Teachers’ Association president V. Gunaseelan presided over the function and gave away special prizes to all the sportspersons. Former Municipal Councillor R. Balakrishnan, Headmaster N. Sellamuthu and Physical Education Teacher S. Saravanan and others offered felicitations.

Programme on AIDS

Directorate of Field Publicity, Tiruchi, organised a special programme on HIV/AIDS for NSS volunteers of Government HSS, Padalur, who camped at Vilakuruchi village in Perambalur district. District Educational Officer R. Palanisami spoke on the immediate need to contain the spread of HIV, especially in rural areas.

District Liaison Officer, NSS programme, Perambalur, C. Rajendran, spoke. A quiz was organised at the end of the programme. Panchayat Union president K. Muthukannu presided over the event. Winners were distributed prizes and certificates. Panchayat president S. Veeramuthu and NSS programme officer Saravanan took part.
