Speaker Pelosi and team will reach India on March 20 They will visit Delhi, Dharamshala, Agra and Mumbai WASHINGTON: Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi is scheduled to leave here on Monday on a six-day visit to India with a Congressional delegation. The team will visit Delhi, Dharamshala, Agra and Mumbai. The four-leg tour will primarily focus on the Ms. Pelosi’s favourite subject of renewable energy with little or no emphasis on seeking New Delhi’s view on the future of the India-U.S. civil nuclear cooperation. “The Speaker asked me to be on it, which is to look at renewable energy. It is filled with people who are involved in energy policy — Ed Markey and Jay Inslee. It has an energy focus to it,” Rep. Jim McDermottt, the co-chair of India caucus, told The Hindu here. Mr. McDermott said that on his personal suggestion, there was an effort to have a briefing from the Nuclear Power Corporation on power and prospects of growth. The delegation also hopes to gather information on the stalled Doha Round of World Trade Organisation discussion. Interestingly, Ms. Pelosi’s delegation includes members who have voted against the India-U.S. nuclear deal and many prefer to push the alternative renewable energy envelope. The delegation reaches India via England on the night of March 20 and depart for Spain on March 25.
