WADA team visits NIS

Patiala: Barely a month after Egyptian Magad Salama quit as Indian coach alleging doping by senior weightlifters, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has collected urine samples of nine lifters in a surprise visit. A two-member team headed by WADA Dope Inspector Sajid Hashmat made a surprise visit to the National Institute of Sports (NIS) on Saturday.

The team collected samples of lifters Geeta Rani, Ranu Mohanti, Rajiv Tomar, Vinod Kumar, Parveen Shivalaya, Monica Devi, G. Elumalai, Santosh Kumar and Pardeep Singh.

The WADA team also took the samples of three athletes — Joseph Abraham (400m hurdles), Abu Bakar (400m) and P.J. Vinod (decathlon). — PTI
